
| Occasionally, I will get email alerts warning me of upcoming auroras. Usually these don't pan out as it is rare to see these in central Indiana. However, on November 7, 2004, around one in the morning, I walked out to my backyard and saw this. These photos are approximately 5-20 second exposures. Yes, the sky really looked like this. |

| With the older mechanically operated cameras ( ), you have the option of leaving the shutter open indefinitely. This makes photographing lightning just a matter of pointing the camera in the right direction, waiting for a strike,and closing the shutter. However, there is the issue of standing outside with a metal tripod in a thunderstorm. I have yet to find a "work-around" on this one. |
